In our day and age, a failure to admit that thousands of kids get hooked on drugs like cocaine, ecstasy and countless other drugs would be regarded as feigned ignorance. Yes, it happens, and there is hardly an age limit for drug addiction these days. Of course, adults are not left out of the struggle.
There are so many downsides to drug addiction. For young adults, it can lead to memory loss, which certainly is bad for your grades. It can also lead to rapid weight loss, delusions, and many other side effects that are difficult to get over.
Beyond an addiction to drugs, alcohol is another substance that is relatively easy for people to get addicted to. For one, taking it helps drown away sorrows, albeit temporarily. However, it is terrible for the liver and other notable organs in the body, and an addiction to this substance is detrimental to health in the long run.
The Vincentian Centre for Church and Society are also interested in members' physical well-being and those we come in contact with. Based on acknowledgement that there are thousands of people addicted to substance abuse in Australia, they have taken it upon themselves to provide a solution to their addiction.
Getting over an addiction certainly isn’t easy. However, at The Vincentian Centre for Church and Society, they ensure that they are always available to provide emotional and physical and financial support for the addicts in their care. Some of the methods in use in helping addiction victims get over their addiction include the following.
Some of the Vincentian Centre for Church and Society’s offer a live-in detox program to members suffering from drug or alcohol addiction. The live-in detox program takes about two to three weeks, which is usually how long it takes for the drugs or alcohol to leave the system of an addict.
Indeed, within this period, participants would go through what is known as withdrawal, and St Vincent’s would provide all the help and support they can. It also helps that the rehab participants are not alone; they have the company of fellow rehabilitation members who can help them in their journey to freedom.
There are also support groups and therapy sessions that are designed to make the process easier.
Participants also have the option of participating in our live-in recovery services.
There is also some program options during Drug Action Week. Here, young adults are educated on the dangers of addiction. It's a free program designed for people from all walks in life. Learn more about Drug Action Week here.
