10:30 a.m. International Perspectives: Globalization, Development and the Effects of the Economic Crisis on the Wealthy and the Poor
The UN Charter commits member nations to foster international economic and social cooperation as necessary to build peaceful relations. In the past 65 years, nations and regions of the world changed in many ways to become part of the globalized economy leading to economic growth globally, but not all have benefited. It has produced in a greater gap between rich and poor nations and peoples. This panel will offer a global view of the effects of globalization on wealth and poverty. It will also assess how the current crises hastened or delayed progress to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. A moderated discussion with the keynote presenters and conference participants will follow the panel presentations.
