At St. John’s University present “The Environment, Poverty, and Sustainable Development: Reflections on Our Common Responsibilities” February 19, 3:30–5:00 p.m. University Storm Center ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Lucia Ann Silecchia, J.D. Professor of Law, Catholic University of America A summa cum laude graduate of Queens College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Lucia Ann Silecchia earned her law degree at Yale University where she served as a Francis J. Coker Teaching Fellow and as Senior Editor of the Yale Law Journal and Topics Editor of Current Topics Journal. Following her graduation from Law School, she practiced law in the litigation department of Rogers and Wells (now Clifford, Chance) in New York City. In 1991, Professor Silecchia joined the faculty of Columbus School of Law at Catholic University serving as the assistant director of Lawyering Skills Program and became a faculty member in 1993 and earned full professorship in 2004. She also served for two years as the law school’s associate dean for Academic Affairs. She has taught environmental law a as well as a range of other courses. During a 2000-01 sabbatical she returned to Yale to serve as a Visiting Scholar. In a 2007-08 sabbatical, Professor Silecchia conducted research on the environment and Catholic Social Thought and traveled widely in Europe as well as in Australia. Professor Silecchia has served on boards of academic associations and is the 2008-09 Chair of the Conference on Catholic Social Thought. In 2007 she was one of nine Americans who participated in the major Vatican Conference on Climate Change and Development. She has advised the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, the American Bar Association CEELI Project, and a host of other organizations. She has taught at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow and in Portugal and has lectured in a variety of venues. Her articles have been published in 15 major law school journals and in a range of other journals. Her work has been cited in other scholarly journals and by various print and electronic media outlets. She has been honored as a “Person of Distinction” by the Association of Legal Writing Directors and as Catholic University’s Mirror of Justice Scholar. Registration is advised.
